SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The occupational therapist assesses a person's functional abilities; and in collaboration with the client, develops and implements an intervention plan. The occupational therapist helps the client adapt to their new situation, supports the maintenance and strengthening of functional skills. In addition, it promotes compensation for disabilities, reduces handicap situations and adapts the environment in order to promote optimal autonomy. He also participates in clinical teaching.

Requested skills

Education:

  • University degree in Occupational Therapy;
  • Member of the Ordre des Ergothérapeutes du Québec. (OEQ)

 

Experience:

  • Clinical experience as an occupational therapist in various fields and programs.
  • Experience in community interventions and coordination of service plans is an asset.
  • Experience working with individuals, families and community organizations.

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Have good ability to adapt and be flexible to changes in a clinical care setting;
  • Be able to collaborate with team members and have good communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • Integrate cultural safety into practice, coaching and learning transfer;
  • Ability to incorporate Eeyou Istchee culture, values, traditions and teachings into programs and services where possible;
  • Knowledge of professional standards, clinical practice guidelines and legislation;
  • Good understanding of health problems as they relate to functional rehabilitation;
  • Excellent research skills and ability to apply evidence-based practice to clinical situations in a First Nations context;
  • Autonomy, discretion, empathy.
 LANGUAGE
  • Fluent in English;
  • Fluency in Cree or French is an asset.

 

OTHER
  • Willing to travel to various communities on a regular basis.
